Today is a day for following up: Houston Area Respite Center doing better, still needs support

While this wonderful organization, Houston Area Respite Center, has attracted more support, higher awareness has also increased demand for its services. If you haven’t made a donation, please think again.

Houston Chronicle:Public response awes Respite, 2010-May-6, by Jennifer Radcliffe

The Houston Area
Respite Center should be able to keep its doors open —and possibly
expand services for children with special needs — because of a recent
surge in donations.

More than $5,500 has been collected in the week since the center
announced that fundraising woes had landed it in danger of closing.

While
that’s only a fraction of the $90,000 a year the center needs to
operate its parents’-night-out program for special-needs children and
social club for adults with disabilities, agency organizers said
they’re building momentum.
